Project Overview:

In October 2024 wrapped up a 72kW solar install at Porta Romana in Farnham, Surrey in less than 3 weeks! The project involved fitting 186 solar panels across two buildings at their commercial premises, designed to significantly reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint. This installation marks a key step in Porta Romana’s journey toward B Corp certification, demonstrating their commitment to sustainability and responsible business practices.

The Challenge:

Porta Romana wanted to dramatically reduce their environmental impact and energy costs, but their usage profile posed some challenges in balancing consumption on-site with the energy produced. Our task was to install a system capable of handling their current energy needs while ensuring any excess energy produced could be managed efficiently to further help them reach their net zero goals.

The Solution:

The installation involved two separate buildings, each fitted with solar PV systems to maximize energy production. The first building features a 36kW Solis inverter, while the second building utilises a 25kW Solis inverter coupled with 10kW Solis hybrid inverter and battery system to store excess energy for night time use. In total, we installed 186 Eurener 410W solar modules, spread across both rooftops. The system’s annual output is aligned with Porta Romana’s energy consumption, and though not all energy will be used on-site, it is a significant step toward reducing reliance on the grid.

The inclusion of a battery system means that Porta Romana can store excess energy for use during peak times or when solar generation is lower, adding even more value to their system.

Results:

With the 72kW system in place, Porta Romana is set to reduce its reliance on grid electricity, significantly lower its energy bills, and move closer to achieving its net zero objectives. The energy savings will help offset operational costs, while the move toward solar energy is a key component in their B Corp certification application, positioning them as leaders in sustainability within their industry.

This project also aligns Porta Romana with broader goals of reducing their carbon footprint, increasing operational efficiency, and showcasing their dedication to environmentally responsible business practices.

We’re thrilled with the outcome of this project. Potentia Engineering’s expertise and professionalism made the entire process seamless, from planning to execution. Their team worked with us closely to design and implement a solution that not only meets our current energy needs but positions us well for the future as we work toward B Corp certification. We’re excited about the energy savings and the environmental impact this project will deliver.
